Feb/23/2013 USCG Mackinaw just went up river breaking the way for the Arthur M. Anderson. By now the Soo Locks are closed for the season, and after a week of inching her way through the unusually thick ice on the lower St. Mary's River she will now have to empty the load of coal at the Carbide Dock in the lower harbor here in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. The coal will be shipped the rest of the way by truck to its destination. This really has been a rough shipping season! The Arthur M. Anderson was also the last ship in contact and first to search for the Edmund Fitzgerald the night the Fitz went down. Hope you enjoy the picture!
